VISION
The Philippines will be a nation blessed by God because its people, specially the children, know, worship, obey and serve Him, and love one another.
MISSION
Reach Youth Ministries is a Gospel-Rescue Mission, which has for its purpose to share the love of God, in truth and with actions, by preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and by extending physical help to people in the depressed areas, primarily children and people with vices, and make them disciples to the glory of God.
HISTORY OF REACH YOUTH
Being aware of the miserable condition of our young people lost in vices, like abuse of illegal drugs, a core of God-loving and God-fearing people decided to bond together to help, by becoming part of the solution, putting their time and talents to work, raising funds to enable the first group of workers to be trained to do the work. The late newspaperman, Teodoro Valencia provided money to get the Ministry started.
Workers were trained in Singapore at the Asian Teen Challenge, and upon the return the Ministry was established. The Reach Youth Training Center, a home for drug addicts who desired rehabilitation, was established in 1985 in Marikina. In l987, the center was transferred to St. Ignatius Village, Quezon City, where there was more space.
The days and months that followed were fruitful in terms of touching and changing lives. However there was something in the heart of the workers that was dying and something wanting to be born, each was fighting to edge the other out. Eventually it became evident that God wanted the Ministry to focus on prevention, rather than treatment. The shortage of workers, the huge cost of maintenance, and housing, were other the reasons prompting such a major move.
The transition happened towards the end of 1988. In January of 1989, the street work, primarily with children and their families commenced operation and the home for drug addicts was closed.
In the years that followed, several people provided resources and volunteered. The work of teaching and feeding children came to be known as the Hands-to-Street Kids (HSK) Program, the main program of the ministry. The ministry was able to establish relationships in the community and initiated other work to help meet their needs. The Day Care Program, Educational Support, Medical/Dental Program. and Adult Value Formation. These were followed by Children’s Home and Livelihood Development. Finally, in 2001, the ministry helped establish a church to encourage the people to worship and serve the Lord.
In February of 2002, the ministry started its first HSK area in Mindanao (Philippines’ largest island; 2 hours by plane from Manila). Through partnerships, the work has now spread to several areas from Davao City to General Santos City and South and North Cotabato. In 2006, trainings were held in Passi City, Iloilo (Visayas island group) and Baguio City (Northern Luzon), where similar works have now commenced.
Today, Reach Youth Ministries, Inc. has prevention and intervention programs among street kids, potential street kids, their families, and other adults, in all major island groups in the Philippines.
