LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Program History
In 1991, the staff and several volunteers and ministry friends contributed to a fund to establish a livelihood for our clients. Initially, the program started with the youth making handicrafts (headbands, beadwork, cross stitching, quilting and crochet, and Christmas décor) and paper bags and selling them in churches. After a while, the adults went into the selling of meat and soap and detergent products. The program hibernated for a few years because changes were needed and because there was no one available to manage the program. In the meantime, the ministry joined school fairs and sold refreshments to volunteers, and did fairly good. Presently, the ministry assists clients in finding full or part time jobs as maids, laundrywomen, drivers or laborers for friends of the ministry. In November 2005, a simple and limited microfinance project was launched.
Clients
Indigent men, women and youth who desire to work and earn additional income for their family.
Services Provided
Children, young people, even mothers, who want to earn money to augment their family income, are given training or provided with ways and means to have their desires and goals realised. Currently, this program has three services:

Services Provided
Children, young people, even mothers, who want to earn money to augment their family income, are given training or provided with ways and means to have their desires and goals realised. Currently, this program has three services:
- Job Placement Assistance - the ministry simply arranges meetings of employers (usually friends of the ministry) and prospective employees and leaves the parties to agree by themselves the terms and conditions of employment, if ever employment pushes through. This service is free.
- Microfinance Project – after an interview and investigation, the ministry lends an amount of money to selected individual clients at lower-than-market interest rates. The client repays the loaned amount according to the schedule in the agreement.
- Referral – the ministry refers a client to an individual or organization who may help in developing a livelihood for him or her.
- Training/ Seminars – the ministry, in partnership with an organization, institution or individual, may be able to provide livelihood training seminars.
